Mission Statement

My mission is to do my best with honor to guide my students to be the best they can be. I will build a caring community where students working together are physically, intellectually, and emotionally safe. I will establish parental communication emphasizing my school/home partnership for each students success. I will motivate with eminent integrity searching for each student's spark, and through their strongest learning style, guide them to discover their exciting world. Students should be reading 3 books at a time. Every night they should be reading a book at home, which they will write me a letter about weekly. This is in place of book reports. The second one is the teaching novel they are reading in class which they will be reflecting on in their Reader's Notebook. And the third one is a book for pleasure that they will keep in their desk for reading in class. A few times a year, we will have a Book Sharing. Students will share a book they have read on their own orally with the class and enjoy cookies and juice.

Classroom Novels

We are currently reading Hatchet by Gary Paulson. This is a story about a 13 year boy, who survives a plane crash, and now must stay alive alone in the Canadian Wilderness.

Students will read silently or in a small group. Students will be writing about their reading in their Reading Journals using active reading skills.
