Dear Parents/Guardians:
Once again, we would like to remind you that for the protection of our students it is important that you notify the school when they will not be in attendance at school. The purpose of this is to avoid any delay in determining that the student is in your care. You should do this by calling 432-6941 at ext. 2243 either the evening before or the morning of the absence. Please contact us before 7:30 AM, if at all possible, and tell us the student’s name, your name and relationship to the student and the reason for absence. Also, when sending an absent note to school, or any school correspondence, please be sure to put your student’s first and last name on the note.
As The Lancer Spirit staff kicks off the 2007-2008 school year, they would like to invite you to help support them in producing their upcoming school newspapers. This year they are continuing the Friends of The Lancer Spirit program. If you are interested in participating, the following are the different member levels: (Bronze Member: $10.00, Silver Member: $25.00, Gold Member: $40.00 and above). Along with your membership, your name or family’s name will be featured in their upcoming papers. You may make your checks payable to The Lancer Spirit. Please send your check and the name(s) you wish to appear in the school newspaper to Londonderry High School, attn: Ms. Mary Lukas, The Lancer Spirit advisor. They would also like to invite you to place an advertisement in The Lancer Spirit. For a small fee, your business can place an ad that would appear in up to 6 issues of the newspaper. If you have any questions or would like more information on advertising, please see Ms. Lukas in room 206 or call at 432-6941 ext. 2865. Thanks for your support.
SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions) announces Red Ribbon Week at LHS October 22-26! Red Ribbon Week began as a tribute to a DEA agent who was killed in the line of duty. The mission of SADD is to make every student aware of the consequences of substance use. Some activities planned include assemblies and speakers, as well as the sale of red bracelets that support the mission of Red Ribbon Week… plus a few other surprises. We hope this week opens conversation for making informed decisions about substance use!
Congratulations to Brenden Bice (Achievement Scholarship), Kaitlyn Lannan, Gregor Stocks, Alexander Walker for achieving semi-finalist status in the PSAT/NMSQT National Merit Program. They are eligible for finalist status in the hope of winning a $2,000 scholarship to his college of choice. They are examples of the many students that bring positive attention to our school and community. Good luck to all of you!
October 17th is an Early Release Day with dismissal at 12:00noon. After dismissal, Londonderry High School will participate in a joint safety exercise with the Londonderry Police and Fire Departments. We will be performing a mock training exercise of a hostage/gunman situation at LHS. We will be using 12 volunteer student council members and several staff at our school. It will be isolated to one area of the building. If you see a number of police cars and fire trucks at our school that afternoon do not panic, we will be participating in this training exercise. We all feel that a proactive approach is the way to go to be prepared for a situation which we hope will never occur at our school.
There have been two calendars circulating around. The correct calendar has Martin Luther King as January 21st. Sorry for any confusion.
Sincerely
James N. Elefante
