A Letter from the Principal

Dear Parents / Guardians:

We hope you enjoyed February Vacation and what will hopefully be the final days of the winter season. This past month has been filled with some exciting events that many Lancers took part in. The Penguin Plunge which raises money for Special Olympics was a huge success. Jake Finnegan, Mike Colby, Courtney Morissette, Dana Boyle, Devin Ingersoll, Alex Burbine, and Geoff Fisher helped raise $1,000 on behalf of LHS. AIDA was performed before sold-out audiences on Valentine’s Day weekend where the cast and crew delivered a sensational musical. Congrats to them and to Director Jim Tremblay. The Night of Jazz was also a big success led by Serge Beaulieu, and our Drumline delivered an outstanding performance for the Boston Celtics. Some of our athletic teams recently completed their seasons. Our Girls Track & Field team finished 3rd in the Class L Meet, where Becca Parascandola became the state record holder in hurdles and also won the high jump. Our Girls Gymnastics team also finished 3rd in their state meet. Our Girls Swim team finished fourth and Boys Swim team finished fifth at the Div. I meet.

The month of March promises to be just as interesting. Our winter athletic tournaments will run from early to mid-March, SAT’s on the 13th, Quarter 3 Progress Reports will be issued on the 15th, and our Marching Band & Color Guard will perform in the annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade in NYC on the 17th. National Honor Society will host the annual Dodgeball Tournament the week of the 22nd, and spring sports will begin on that Monday. This will also be the month that the National Merit Scholarship recipients will be notified. The 2010 Finalists were recently named, and LHS has two deserving candidates in Michael Darcy, and Jessica Fang. Another distinct selection was made on behalf of the Presidential Scholars Program in Washington, D.C. where Jaclyn Hoffman was named a candidate. Congratulations to these three students and to our literary magazine Impressions which received the highest rank of ‘Superior’ by the National Council of Teachers of English.

Our Students and Staff Members of the Month include Robbie Feinberg (Gr 12), Lindsay Conroy (Gr 11), Kayla O’Connell (Gr 10), Katlyn Lamarche (Gr 9), Suzanne Hjelm (Teacher), and Kristen Radford (Staff). Our Student-Athletes of the Month are CJ Flanders and Callie King. Paul Dutton and Mary Johnson, representatives for the Dollars for Scholars Committee, coordinated our student groups in this year’s phone-a-thon which raised over $17,000 during the eight night span. Once again, both our students and our community assisted in giving their time and money towards scholarships for our Senior Class going on to post-secondary pursuits. We are fortunate to have such a supportive community and we sincerely appreciate your generosity.

Sincerely,
Jason Parent
Principal
