Web Site Evaluation
The World Wide Web is just that - information from all over the world. There's usually something about everything on the web, just waiting for you to access it. Sounds great; almost too good to be true. Unfortunately, it is too good to be true. The Internet can be a very useful resource, but it is not always the most reliable resource. There are informative, dependable web sites out there next to bogus, inaccurate web sites....how do you tell the difference? Why is it important to know the difference? It's important to keep in mind that there are other resources in the Library Media Center---books, journals and electronic databases which have already been evaluated by scholars, publishers and librarians before they become available for you to use. This is not true of the World Wide Web. No one is evaluating the information prior to your using it. Use the Internet, but always verify your information by searching the other LMC resources.
Below is a Powerpoint presentation that was created by the Library Media Specialists to help you answer these questions and think about the best resources for you to use when researching assignments.
